Let’s cut right to the chase and speed up your computer’s startup time.

If you’re here, your computer’s startup has gotten so slow that by the time it loads, you’ve forgotten what you wanted in the first place. There is one quick step you can take to improve your computer’s startup speed:

check the items that are scheduled to load on startup, and remove items that you don’t need.

Many new software programs are designed to automatically load on startup. This is good for security programs, like anti-viruses, but it’s simply not necessary for most other programs, and most people. Whenever a program is scheduled to launch with Windows, it takes a little bit more of your system’s resources. With a few of these startup programs hogging your memory, the bootup time can degrade considerably. The solution – remove unnecessary startup items.

You can do this manually by visiting the Windows Control Panel, and clicking on the Scheduled Tasks icon. From there, you can find programs that are scheduled to launch when Windows starts, and delete that schedule item. You can also do this automatically.

If you’d like to make the process a little easier and faster, you can use special software to get direct access to your startup items, and disable them with a click of a button. SpeedyPC is an excellent choice for this task. SpeedyPC’s Tuner function lists each of your startup item, and you can disable any of them by selecting a program and clicking “Disable Selected.”

There are other perks of using a program like SpeedyPC. For one, you do not have to permanently delete the scheduled task, merely disable it. This way, if you decide later on that you need a certain program to load at startup, you can use the Tuner and simply use the “Enable Selected” button.

Plus, SpeedyPC displays items which may be hidden from the Windows Scheduled Tasks feature. Some programs, either due to poor design, malicious content, or system error, will not show up in the Scheduled Tasks window. As a result, the only way to stop the program from loading at startup is to completely uninstall it. SpeedyPC scans a little bit better, and a little bit deeper, to find all of the programs that are queued to begin on startup.

By reviewing your scheduled tasks, either manually or with automatic software, you can stop unnecessary software launches from slowing you down.
